Why am I doing this, you ask? I have never been accused of being an accomplished writer like my good friend, Hal McCoy. However, I do have an interest in and flair for teaching, having taught at the junior high, high school and university levels.
“What gets us into trouble is not what we don’t know. It’s what we know for sure that just ain’t so.” – Mark Twain
Over my 30 plus years as a financial advisor, I have heard on numerous occasions comments that are not true. Often these deep-rooted perceptions constrain people’s behavior, making it more difficult to achieve their goals.
Here at Petra, we are committed to financial literacy for all, from age eight to age eighty! I have no illusions that any one blog post will be a difference-maker. My hope is to, over time, provide a stream of consciousness that will be informative and enlightening. This blog is all about your money. Getting organized and putting your affairs in order is also important. Hopefully my blog will help you do that.
Petra’s disciplined risk management process occupies much of my team’s time every business day. Frequently I run across something that is not widely known, which I believe to be important enough that it needs to be shared and disseminated more widely. By and large this information will be in the public domain, sourced, with links and commentary where appropriate. Occasionally, I may post insights from guest commentators who are expert in related fields.
In short, I would like to provide a broad forum that is worthy of your time, but not controversial (in other words, at times I may highlight policy without the politics). Please let me know how I am doing in this new endeavor. You can ask questions and suggest topics for discussion on our website home page.
Until next time, cheers!
Jim
